Udzungwa Half-Day Tours: Top 5 Adventures in Tanzania
Thinking of taking a walk on the wild side? Well, almost everybody wants to go to Tanzania to see the Serengeti, yet there’s this pretty cool place in the southern part of the nation named Udzungwa Mountains National Park. It’s not very crowded, so it’s almost as if it is your very own hidden gem just teeming with plants and wildlife found nowhere else. What I’m getting at is that if you’ve only got a short amount of time, there are some spectacular half-day hikes you should really check out. I’m going to tell you about five that you might consider.
Sanje Waterfalls Hike
If you’re thinking, what is that one thing I really must experience in Udzungwa, many would say it has to be the Sanje Waterfalls. To begin with, the path starts out easy enough, but pretty soon it seemingly changes to a reasonably steep climb down into the valley. But don’t sweat it too much, okay? It’s so worth it. Once you finally arrive, the view is just mind-blowing with not one, but three waterfalls dropping a seriously long way. Take some unbelievable shots, as a matter of fact go for a refreshing plunge in the natural pools – seriously, how awesome would that be? It’s very cool, too, so the perfect refresher. Now and then, very cheeky primates come very close looking to see what is going on.
Prince Bernhard’s Pool
Now, for anyone needing a less intense trek, there is the Prince Bernhard’s Pool trail which is really your best bet, alright? It has an enchanting atmosphere, is what I am getting at, as it basically leads you along a nice and peaceful path that in effect hugs the forest floor next to the river. Then there are massive trees everywhere that reach high up to the sky where bright birds are singing that could very well lift your spirits. Once you arrive at the pool, it appears you’ve stepped into your own secluded and private oasis. You might actually be able to take a dip, I reckon it’s almost always icy though! Very picturesque views and loads of unique critters along the route tend to turn up. Actually, one I did not see anywhere else are some really massive millipedes you may find.
Udzungwa Red Colobus Trail
So, fancy primates? Is that the sort of thing you are interested in? This trail gives you possibly the top chances of spotting the rare Udzungwa red colobus. The monkeys are apparently curious so they might come down for a look and a friendly hello. As I was just saying, it’s almost the only location around they are ever actually spotted at all! If you think about it, a lot of nature goes by mostly unnoticed. Walking through here it is very quiet, usually and pretty meditative if you give it a chance, alright?
Mwanihana Trail
Right then, let’s have a chat regarding the Mwanihana Trail. It has somewhat tougher climbs; what is happening here is you get rewarded with some amazing viewpoints as you go higher and higher. As it goes deeper and deeper into the hills, I would guess it gives one a feeling of the truly diverse biodiversity in Udzungwa, too. It is all over this part of Africa, truly. I almost bet you didn’t understand this region hosts all those species that live here!
The Udzungwa Mountains Viewpoint Trail
This path gives one remarkable landscape vistas for sure and is quite popular with photographers. As well as stunning mountain vistas, the whole valley lies out in front of you so it’s possible to grab some truly stunning photos that should boost your Insta profile. On a clear day it appears you can virtually observe for hundreds of kilometers. Seriously a feast for the eyes, is what is happening here! This one may possibly have you telling everyone about how fantastic it seems.
To put it in perspective, a half-day trip to Udzungwa Mountains Park offers something to everyone! All the trips listed are somewhat of a bit physical exercise and visual stimulus. Also the trips take a while, okay?
