Getting Started: Meeting Up and First Impressions
So, the day finally arrives, and, like, you’re kind of excited and also trying to figure out the metro system in Istanbul, because that too can be something. The meeting point was fairly central, easy enough to find. Our guide, her name was Ayşe, she was, as a matter of fact, super friendly and spoke really good English, that actually made everyone feel relaxed straight away. What was also good, that, it was a small group— only about six of us, very. The first stop? A little street vendor selling simit, that’s those circular bread things covered in sesame seeds. Very simple, I will say, but honestly surprisingly yummy, too it’s almost, like the perfect thing to start with.

A Deep Taste: What Exactly Did We Eat?
Okay, now to the most delicious part, the actual food! very First up after simit, we actually headed to a place for some proper Turkish breakfast, that means cheeses, olives, tomatoes, honey, and this amazing clotted cream called kaymak. We had to lather that on fresh bread— that’s, just yum. very Then there were the kebabs. Oh my goodness, the kebabs! We, just as a matter of fact, tried a few different types, including the famous Adana kebabı (spicy) and İskender kebabı (with yogurt and tomato sauce). The meat, you, like your, could almost taste the freshness, cooked over charcoal, just amazing, very. very very. Somewhere in between, we were sort of sampling some Turkish coffee and learning about how to actually read the coffee grounds (apparently, I am going to have good luck soon!). Finally, no food tour could literally skip dessert, right? We actually finished with baklava that was very flaky and kunefe, a warm cheese pastry soaked in syrup, honestly, the sweetness was everything, everything!

Venturing Off the Tourist Track: Where Did We Go?
It actually wasn’t all just about stuffing our faces, as a matter of fact, we too, spent some little time wandering through, that is, lesser-known parts of Istanbul. very Our guide, Ayşe, she knew some really cool backstreets and local markets that I honestly would, basically, never have found by myself. So we actually saw how locals live, where they are going to shop, what they eat, just getting a proper sense of the city, not very, just the, like, touristy spots. What that did, that too made the tour feel a bit more, should I say, authentic.

What Makes This Tour Stand Out? (The Good Bits)
Okay, there’s, that is, a bunch of food tours, honestly, what made this, sort of, one pretty good? very very I mean, first off, a very knowledgeable guide, Ayşe, just her being able to actually explain all the dishes and the culture behind them made a serious difference. Then there were also the small group size, so too, that actually meant it didn’t feel crowded, you felt free to ask questions, actually chatting to the other people on the tour. Obviously, most of all, the food, which was pretty top-notch quality and lots of variety. It actually wasn’t just about eating, in that case, we were also, like, learning stuff. Win-win.

Are There Any Downsides? (Things to Keep In Mind)
Everything isn’t very rosy all the time, so, it might be just as well, to actually talk about the downsides. I wouldn’t, as a matter of fact, say there were any major problems, that, I will say, the tour is probably going to take about 3-4 hours, and very that means, you should probably have comfortable shoes on. If you aren’t that, you see, used to walking that bit, that might literally wear you down a bit. Also, you should probably note, you, that, are sampling lots of food. Maybe don’t eat too much beforehand! (Trust me on this one.) Last point is, if you, actually, have some dietary requirements, so too, you just, in fact, should literally let them know in advance, you’ll be fine.
