Right then, first up, Parga. So, imagine a town that tumbles down to the sea, very painted in every shade of pastel, you know? It’s roughly an hour south of Igoumenitsa, maybe, and that drive alone? A treat, seriously! Think winding roads, that are seemingly hugging the coastline, anyway, with views that’ll have you pulling over every five minutes to snap yet another photo, alright?

You have your choice here: want to just chill? Valtos Beach is your spot. Fine golden sand and shallow waters means that it’s just the place for soaking up the sun, actually. Feeling bit more active? That’s all good! Then very get lost in the town’s backstreets, apparently discovering hidden tavernas and boutiques selling everything from handmade jewelry to local honey, you know. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, then take a boat trip to the little islands scattered nearby, that could be what you are searching for.

And, if you’re anything like me, and can’t resist a bit of history, anyway, very head up to the Venetian Castle. It’s a bit of a climb, granted, might be, yet that view from the top? That’s so worth every single step! That would likely be the view to the town and the coastline, it will take your breath away, seemingly. Just picture yourself standing there, very feeling the breeze on your face, seemingly, and soaking it all in, so, right?

2. Meteora: Monasteries in the Sky

Meteora

Okay, now, for something completely different, more or less let’s head inland to Meteora. Okay granted, it’s a bit of a drive – think around three hours, actually – yet very trust me on this one: very these monasteries perched atop towering rock formations are an astonishing sight to behold, so, is that not so?

These unbelievable clifftop monasteries, apparently they date back to the 14th century. If you only want to visit one, very head to the Great Meteoron Monastery, apparently the largest and arguably the most impressive, seemingly. Inside, apparently you will be able to discover beautiful religious paintings, well preserved monastery rooms and ancient religious artifacts. As I was saying, wear comfy shoes though, the walks between monasteries can be a little challenging for some folks, and I mean the climb.

Even if you’re not usually that into religious sites, very believe me, that setting alone is astounding. Standing there, as a matter of fact, very gazing up at those incredible rocks, more or less feeling the sense of peace, you know, It really will stick with you.

This trip requires some advance prep time for most travellers because it’s long, more or less that said, you may want to set out earlier, too it’s almost a must, for you. Think packing some snacks and water. In some respects, that drive passes through some nice parts of the Greek countryside, for example you could pause somewhere scenic on the route to stretch your legs and have a snack. And don’t forget that camera, actually – you may want to take tons of photos! As previously mentioned, it’s worth the journey!

And just get yourself lost in the maze of narrow streets – the “kantounia,” as the locals call them, typically – browse the shops selling kumquat liqueur, very a Corfu specialty, might be? Visit the Old Fortress and New Fortress for some unbelievable views, well then explore Spianada Square, one of the biggest squares in Greece.

Corfu Town has a real mix of cultures – Venetian, French, and British influences blend here, you know – and you can actually see that in the architecture and the food. Stop at a local cafe, could be very you watch the locals go by over a Freddo espresso and some fresh local cake!

A photographer will love this place, actually. And your Instagram friends will be jealous when seeing those fantastic shots from the land.

Well you must go for a stroll in the Vikos Gorge. The depth is roughly 900 meters, so one can view it as the third deepest gorge in the world following the Grand Canyon, even if you may only want to spend a little time there. There’s paths available for short strolls or if one is feeling very outdoors-y there’s options to be trekking along several-day hikes, literally! There is also the natural reserve.

And if you’re like me, and like nothing more than seeking an unique place for the night, well you could also be settling in one of the local stone villages. So it’s only a short drive, is that not so, very about 30 minutes south of Igoumenitsa – for those turquoise waters that are so perfect, very that people call it the “Greek Caribbean,” might be. If that does not tell you anything you will not listen anyway. Even I was very surprised there.

Hire a boat (you don’t even need a license for some of the smaller ones), might be, and find a secluded cove all to yourself. Basically that is how I explored the bays that offer pristine sands, literally.

But you could easily go by kayak or small motorboat – so many ways one can reach one bay or other! If that’s you very spend a few hours relaxing then! Then grab an iced coffee or refreshing orange juice while having fun. Do that, okay?
