The first stop, you know, takes you to Thingvellir, which is, honestly, a place that holds a lot of very important history, it certainly does. You walk on ground there, actually, where people from ages past used to get together to, sort of, decide things for the country, kind of like old meetings, anyway. It is, to be honest, quite a remarkable bit of ground, sort of, as you stand right where big geological movements have really shaped the Earth, definitely. Seeing the deep cracks in the ground there, you know, gave us a good feeling of the slow, continuous movement of the continents themselves, in a way, almost like two large parts of a puzzle are drifting apart, as a matter of fact. The silence that sometimes settled over the area as the sun got lower, sort of, truly let you think about the long, long story of the land, it certainly did.

“Walking through Thingvellir as the sun began to dip felt less like being on a tour and more like stepping into a peaceful story. Gullfoss: Waterfalls as the Light Fades

Moving along, basically, the next very memorable point on the outing was the impressive Gullfoss, literally. This place is, kind of, where a very large amount of water, you know, takes a long drop over different rock layers, to be honest, sending up a fine spray, it truly does. You can, of course, usually hear the roar of it before you, so, even get a clear view, it’s just amazing, really. As we stood there watching the great body of water descend, nearly, the afternoon light, like your own eyes might agree, caught the little bits of water in the air, creating, at times, faint, rainbow-like patterns, sort of. It was, kind of, a pleasing and also quite a loud sort of experience, anyway, which leaves you feeling a bit in awe, obviously.

The feeling of so much raw force, basically, is pretty clear, definitely. People tend to move a bit more slowly, sort of, in the later part of the day, as a matter of fact, making the walkways around the place feel, you know, just a little more peaceful, kind of. We, really, liked taking a while to walk along the different paths that are there, you know, to find spots where we could get different points of view of the moving water, basically. A More Relaxed Experience in the Afternoon

A More Relaxed Experience in the Afternoon

This meant, of course, less waiting around, to be honest, and also more room for taking good pictures, nearly. You did not, like your feelings might tell you, feel quite so much like you were, basically, part of a big group moving along, and that made a good deal of difference, you know. The guides, it’s almost, seemed happy to share their knowledge, and they gave us, sort of, plenty of chances to ask questions, basically. It felt more like a pleasant group sharing stories than a strict academic talk, you know.

Taking this particular version of the Golden Circle, you know, meant we were coming back to our lodging spot as the day was fading, naturally. The ride back, honestly, offered lovely last looks at the far-reaching land, basically. The sun, in some respects, cast longer shadows over things, painting everything in slightly darker colors, sort of. It was, kind of, a calming end to a very full day of going around and seeing things, at the end of the day. You felt full of impressions, you know, but not, as a matter of fact, completely drained, you know what I mean. The pacing of the trip felt just right, which is good, truly.
