Drake Bay’s Top Food & Drink: A Flavorful Review

Okay, so picture this: you’re in Drake Bay, Costa Rica, that little slice of paradise where the rainforest hugs the ocean, very much like stepping into a postcard. And after a long day of exploring, maybe swimming with dolphins or hiking through the jungle, your stomach is probably rumbling, right? Luckily, Drake Bay has got some pretty wonderful spots to satisfy that hunger. Now, I wouldn’t call this place a foodie capital – don’t expect Michelin-starred spots here – it’s really about finding tasty, genuine local eats with that stunning Costa Rican vibe, alright? This review highlights some seriously awesome spots to try in Drake Bay.

Clarita’s: Seaside Dining with a View

Claritas Drake Bay Restaurant

First up is Clarita’s, and actually it’s pretty hard to miss. It sits right on the beach with open-air seating; very lovely for taking in that ocean breeze while you eat, in fact. The vibe here tends to be super casual; you are basically in your swimwear, so just wander up from the sand. The menu? Yeah, it is fairly extensive, offering everything from local seafood plates to some familiar dishes for folks who are maybe a little less daring when it comes to what they eat, that is. I usually gravitate more towards the seafood – the grilled fish with garlic sauce is basically a must-try. So imagine tender, flaky fish with that garlicky punch, paired with rice and maybe some patacones (fried plantains). Plus, with waves crashing nearby, too, it creates some unforgettable lunch or dinner experience. Expect to pay around $15-$25 for an entree, give or take; so you might describe it as affordable.

Chez Christophe: A Touch of France in Costa Rica

Chez Christophe Restaurant

Now, for something totally unexpected: French dining in Drake Bay. Yeah, Chez Christophe might sound a bit out of place, very much like a beacon in the rainforest, in some respects, but don’t let that deter you! This cute place brings a whole different flavor profile to the table, that is. The chef is actually French; that, so he brings his homeland expertise and passion for preparing dishes that give honor and attention to flavor. Okay, so think classics like steak frites (steak with fries) or maybe a duck confit (slowly cooked duck). The flavors, like, explode on your taste buds. It is almost a welcome change after days of traditional Costa Rican fare, I think. Now, it’s perhaps a bit pricier than other local spots – expect to pay around $25-$40 for an entree – very but that, quality and preparation really justify it. That being said, it can be a superb treat and actually, something worth it!

Drake’s Kitchen: Local Flavors at a Steal

Drake's Kitchen Food Stall

Okay, so, if you want to basically eat like a local without spending too much money, Drake’s Kitchen is totally the spot for you. It’s pretty much a no-frills kind of place; and actually, serving up some absolutely scrumptious Costa Rican dishes at a super great price. We can talk about the quintessential “casado” – a hearty plate, usually complete with rice, beans, plantains, your pick of meat or fish, with a simple salad – for somewhere close to $7-$10. It’s like, one filling, delicious, and easy on your budget; which might be exactly what you are looking for. The spot is extremely well-known to the locals; you too, could potentially, meet local residents who will share travel ideas. It may lack the ambiance of the more fancy places, it’s yet where you are going to grab some really authentic and satisfying eats!

Aguila de Osa Wildlife Lodge Restaurant: Upscale Dining with a Jungle View

Aguila de Osa Wildlife Lodge Restaurant

Looking to splurge, so treat yourself to a special evening? You might enjoy Aguila de Osa Wildlife Lodge. In some respects it is more upmarket option featuring seriously breathtaking jungle views. The open-air restaurant gives incredible scenery and makes meal all that better! Okay, so while you are there, sample the menu with creatively crafted dishes with a little of the local harvest, some of the seafood! Prices, I find are obviously higher, but totally reflective of experience, with dishes from around $30-$50. Treat that palate of yours to something really out of this galaxy; and, take your tastebuds on an all time experience.

Sunset Coco: Cocktails and Chill Vibes

Sunset Coco Drake Bay Bar

As you come to a close for the perfect day; Sunset Coco provides exactly the space you are searching for! This location really rocks with some stunning sunsets (you perhaps worked that one out already huh?), and gives some crafted cocktails to take it all to another place! This might make the prime perch to end any travel and tell all your most loved buddies on a truly exceptional destination. To give example – maybe an ocean swim that morning? Now, this bar, gives the chance to remember this incredible time. Sunset Coco supplies the whole tropical ambiance; that said this experience turns it super unique; not too shabby aye?
