Boston Ghosts Tour Review: Is US Ghost Adventures Worth It?

Thinking about exploring a more chilling side to Boston? Well, US Ghost Adventures has a “Boston Ghosts” tour that’s supposed to show you just that, apparently promising a spooky and engaging experience. So, it might be right for you. I mean, I took the tour a bit ago, and I wanted to share all about my experiences with the 2025 updated version of this spooky walking tour to, very hopefully, assist you in figuring out if it might just be worth your while or not.

First Impressions and the Meeting Point

Meeting up for the “Boston Ghosts” tour, in the darkness, near the Massachusetts State House already felt a bit, just a little spooky. The State House, you see, has that grand, sort of imposing presence, and when it is all lit up at nighttime it definitely casts a long shadow filled with…potential things that might bump in the night, really adding to that creepy atmosphere the tour tries to get across. I showed up kinda early and already there were some other people milling about, and exchanging that very nervous excitement people have before, just before they go and maybe scare themselves silly. Now, our guide, was this guy named Liam, showed up wearing a long coat and carrying, sort of acting as though he was lugging, this really old lantern; just giving him a quite, nearly almost dramatic ghostly hunter type of appearance which really helped pull all of us into the mood, you know?

Liam, who very quickly proved himself as rather a storyteller, right off the bat started speaking about the haunted history surrounding the State House. I can say this, you know he’d seriously, literally, done his homework. He shared some seriously gruesome details about past events, as a matter of fact telling of political intrigue and a bit, just a bit of scandalous stuff. He did a grand job just sort of painting this really eerie scene, you see, and really laying a great, excellent, kind of spooky foundation for everything else we were about to, or rather maybe, encounter that night. He went out of his way to tell of hidden chambers that can’t just be located on any map, and that are supposedly still haunted to this day and very heavily so. A detail or two he let slip kind of set me and a few others on edge. Spooky.

Exploring the Graveyards and Historic Sites

From the State House, our creepy crawly troupe – it was a small, almost private gathering of maybe 15 folks — moved on over to the Granary Burying Ground. Walking through there was, anyway, a super cool, a bit unnerving sort of experience. It has so many old, old gravestones and they are practically falling to pieces and tilting every which way from age; the whole layout has the tendency to, sort of, you know, make your mind fill with all manner of weird stuff. And it is always, it’s pretty, often said, this particular graveyard is seriously crowded with historical figures, anyway, like folks that helped write the Declaration of Independence, right, yet Liam kinda kept our attention directed more toward the many, many ghostly happenings and various urban legends associated with this very site. Apparently, I’d read a little about the site online beforehand. Just a touch. Anyway, you see, a few tourists in the area claimed that just maybe something caught them on the ankle in the graveyard.

He just told a story concerning one particular gravestone and the tale of a supposed haunting that’s been around for decades, as a matter of fact. Someone named “Goody” is supposedly, very apparently, responsible for some amount of paranormal ruckus. Right after telling this particular story, well, my phone started bugging out. I mean, as a matter of fact, acting like it might have a gremlin stuck in it. Was the phone bug out caused by Goody? Honestly? I really, actually, can’t give you a solid answer to that. Then, after my phone returned back to normal functioning status, Liam, still ever the creepy yet cool storyteller, went on to share details, as a matter of fact of graverobbing and other disturbing tales connected to many other locations in the area. So, like, you know it’s a graveyard? Graverobbing seems kinda like it comes with the territory. Grim.

Now, each stop we took kinda had a way, so, of connecting to the one just before it, actually building upon itself with details. Each story had layers, sort of, upon layers. The historical info meshed well with what I might call local lore. Liam just definitely knew all of the right buttons, as a matter of fact, to kinda push to try to create this air of suspense, just sprinkling in little details of weird happenings and alleged paranormal activity. He’d very clearly been telling stories like this for a hot minute, alright?

Tales of Colonial Boston and Beyond

Now, the tour, pretty much, didn’t stay put inside the graveyards, of course, no, instead going and exploring, well exploring other locations around the area of Colonial Boston where some seriously, essentially eerie happenings supposedly happened. Like one stop, as a matter of fact, the guide stopped us in front of an old building and explained that its history held court to lots, and lots of apparitions; also that the spirits are frequently seen either in, seemingly in, the windows or kinda darting across the road nearby. That little yarn painted an extremely haunted setting to, it seemed, the eyes of most of my group at least.

As we, sorta, went between locations, Liam, just telling, kinda, what things looked like in Colonial times; just sorta comparing it with how it, arguably, looks today, was really doing all that he could to make the atmosphere stand out. In this manner, what he told wasn’t always some gross or scary tale of paranormal goings ons or ghoulish nightmare fodder. I mean, some of it actually had basis in actual historical truths – to a certain point at least. He talked of public executions. Some rather, sorta, harsh treatment of early colonists. Anyway he connected that with stories of lost souls; just building on the theme with that old Colonial feel, alright?

One place we visited used to be a courthouse, as a matter of fact, and it had this backstory regarding a judge they said, like they said he’d been cursed for a choice he’d previously made that led to some amount of, more or less, maybe perceived injustice. Then, from there he took us over to a building used to conduct businesses, anyway, talking of a time that a woman claimed one of the employees murdered her…dog. Apparently that little canine was a beloved member of her household, allegedly, they say. It gave a nice, just a bit unsettling kind of contrast, sorta like showing us what things used to, allegedly, feel like and what feelings might just be stuck there as well, almost in a loop I suppose.

The Guide’s Performance and Storytelling

What truly just sorta made or break the “Boston Ghosts” tour was, anyway, without question, the performance given by Liam, our tour guide. Now, I just pointed this out before. He just clearly had experience; was seriously good with this sort of storytelling gig. It actually really did improve how the whole tour went. So, for instance, he delivered all of those dark and twisty stories while adding the needed flair. A bit, actually a lot, creepy, as a matter of fact; yet still seriously captivating to almost everybody there. What made the tour experience so much better was his style. He sounded extremely genuine. It kinda appeared he felt this strong urge to make certain all people got an amazing scare that night. Any questions were quickly and thoroughly explained. You, also, know? So he would sometimes respond with, yet another, creepy story or maybe, arguably, a historical insight; almost trying to bring some unique depth.

Just how well he told some stories can, arguably, affect your experience when it boils down to it. All of the stories of a Boston long since gone; the way he spoke of them I can say, genuinely brought the past into the present. So he’d not just explain what some spot on the tour may represent now, as a matter of fact also speaking of its historical roots that some amount of residual energy clung onto, allegedly. All the facts flowed together into a kind of a spooky harmony that he directed that evening. This wasn’t simply walking with, what can be described as, a historical professor, alright, it was more as a medium who really gave what the spot represented a pulse.

Overall Experience and Recommendations

All things thought out, actually? As a matter of fact, the “Boston Ghosts” tour by US Ghost Adventures just seemingly offered some truly very good combination of genuinely terrifying and very real historical insight that can be found somewhere hidden beneath the very floorboards of Boston. Some amount of the tales can creep a person out, of course. Then other times a little piece of history can maybe fascinate, and a lot of times both these extremes kinda did intermingle with each other a bit during our little journey that night. Of course.

Liam’s stellar storytelling simply turned everything up. This might appear cheesy to someone, yes, alright? But the mood setting alone simply made our travels throughout Boston extremely unnerving and enjoyable! Even for a jaded local! And maybe one that just needed to exit his comfort zone for a bit! His talent with the narrative really brings those locations alive. So if you kinda appreciate tours that go out of their way, and I mean they REALLY TRY to deliver a sense of the history by telling very weird tales then you probably need this one!

The “Boston Ghosts” tour is strongly suggested for folks; so for ones that love spooky tales, also stories about local history too it’s probably something that should interest most tourists or curious people that find themselves with that free evening slot. You’ll hear about ghosts, as a matter of fact. Even more. Be shown very unique pieces of Colonial history of the location! If it sounds just slightly up your alley then I give this haunted historical adventure two skeletal thumbs way, way up.

• Spooky Atmosphere: Traveling the dark, kinda creepy Boston streets kind of helps the unsettling stories become just more immersive which also means scary.
• Knowledgeable Guide: Our tour guide was basically incredibly insightful and seriously willing to answer the barrage of questions flung his direction.
