So, you’re in Akhaltsikhe and thinking about taking a day trip, huh? Well, that is to say, you’re in for a treat. This somewhat little hub in Georgia puts you, in a way, within spitting distance of some really spectacular places. I mean, as I was saying, like, you’ve got historical sites, nature that is just jaw-dropping, and little tastes of Georgian culture just waiting to be devoured. Anyway, that said, alright, let’s get right to the meat of it: top five day trips that, in my opinion, are worth your time, and maybe even a little bit more! So, prep your travel plans, then.
1. Rabati Castle: A History Lesson Wrapped in Stone
Okay, look, Rabati Castle is practically right there in Akhaltsikhe. It’s almost like cheating to call it a “day trip,” but believe me, very few get the full story, the complete experience, in just a brief visit. It’s not simply an ancient fortress; I mean, it is actually a living history museum. Seriously, there is the thing of this place having witnessed so much! Alright, like your different cultures that have influenced it are almost tangible in its stones. Apparently, parts of the fortress date back to the 9th century. As a matter of fact, this is not to say the entire thing is that old, what with the Ottomans, for instance, really putting their own stamp on things a few centuries back. Now, there is this interesting mix of Georgian and Ottoman styles; you get a feel for that meeting point of empires that you don’t often find. Also, take your time wandering around; there are some mosques, a church, and even a synagogue. Furthermore, alright, so it is something for everyone there.
And honestly, a walk around up there offers this sweeping look out that goes over Akhaltsikhe. That said, it’s like looking back across the time. So, think it’s worth the effort. Very! So, is that cool or what?
2. Vardzia: The Cave City That Will Blow Your Mind
Now, then, so Vardzia, that is a bit of a drive from Akhaltsikhe, a couple hours maybe. But in fact, really, every single minute spent on that highway will feel, really, pretty well invested once you actually catch a glimpse of the first view of this cave city sprawling along the cliffside. Honestly, this place is just something you might find on a different planet. Also, speaking from a historical standpoint, what is, perhaps, its importance is very much huge. It was, more or less, constructed back in the 12th century. The idea was it could act like this sanctuary from Mongol invasions, if things really went sideways. Too it’s almost the most remarkable thing that a fair portion of the city, including, too it’s almost, its water systems, that was all cut directly into the rock. The amount of ingenuity, the pure human willpower that got poured in up there is astounding, too it’s almost tangible, there too. Also, wandering through the cave-lined tunnels. Anyway, and so checking out the old church with those murals, that is an experience that is pretty amazing. Definitely allow at minimum three hours up there, actually maybe more. Oh, yeah!
3. Borjomi: Parks, Spas, and a Whole Lotta Bubbles
Right then, Borjomi, right? Naturally, what will instantly come to your mind is going to be this somewhat particular brand of sparkling water; yeah, the kind that they serve the world over. Seriously though, Borjomi is in fact way more than only that, you see. And actually, getting on over there, this very valley town, this is a relaxing respite and that is the God’s honest truth. Also, so you’ve got this absolutely beautiful Mineral Water Park, which offers trails and a little taste of that water. Too it’s almost I don’t like the flavor too awfully much, but, anyway, in truth, really, it might be something worth trying; what I’m saying is, there, people journey up there straight for that therapeutic kind of thing for who-knows-how-many hundreds of years. Then that would be the thermal baths at Borjomi, they say there is something therapeutic happening up there. Of course, and honestly, while out there, for all that there is some pretty nature out there to check out too. Very much beautiful valleys as well as forests over in this area make a spot that you just shouldn’t miss out on if what you prefer is nature and just getting on over there with a chill mood. Finally, so do spend the entirety of that day on out there, basically; that said, it is pretty damn refreshing!
4. Sapara Monastery: A Spiritual Retreat with Stunning Views
Next up is Sapara Monastery, alright? Now, this particular little spot is kinda special because there aren’t tons of crowds; I mean, too it’s almost I think it may very well give off the vibes that it is like some thing undiscovered. In short, this, basically, dates way on back from the 10th century, and this location is really awesome. Honestly, is that I tell you no lie, so a drive of about 30 or 40 minutes and it will, certainly, deposit you right up there right up into a perch, overlooking some gorgeous forests. So, this, too it’s almost, I think, could just well turn into the perfect opportunity to go away from everything for an entire minute, so you, well, very, have a chance for you, to connect with stuff that makes one a human kind of way? Obviously. Plus, then you’ve got the architecture, you get the old-world paintings in there. And so with this, is just, certainly, just soaking up everything around with that little place, like something or other like a place that feeds whatever parts make you go. Very spiritual location in there if you’re gonna head on through Georgia at any point! Too it’s almost I suggest checking them out!
5. Khertvisi Fortress: A Photo Opportunity That’s Rich in History
Very well, so, at the conclusion up to this little rundown on top places to just get yourself over out of Akhaltsikhe for one day trip there might just have to be a small stop up at one spot way on over there in Khertvisi Fortress. Of course! Look, in truth, Khertvisi, as it just so happens, you see, they assume the area has some kind of activity happening as far away back as those days before all this christ stuff and such. Clearly, but whatever everyone might believe up in here in our year so and so. Clearly, even then. Seriously though, like, whatever we know of Khertvisi the physical remains is to say something of a time line going waaaayyyy the hell way on on way the hell up yonder, there like some time. Gosh! Honestly. Anyway, so you gotta, you see, that just there, basically, you’ll be wandering on across those ground one little step here and one tiny stomp for the folk kind of feels there as it just so comes up too for you! Well this location up there as well; so its one great position that shows a thing for strategy out in any way, kind of. Very clever. And yeah it shows up great on your cam pics or phones as well.
