The instructors were very experienced stone cutters, just masters of their craft and they just couldn’t have been friendlier. And yes, they appeared very happy to help everybody, regardless of what level they were at, which certainly put everyone at ease. I could see there were lots of skill levels among us; people with professional jewel-crafting knowledge down to total newbies. I would consider myself somewhere in the middle and I was actually impressed that the experts very obviously tailored their support just perfectly for everybody.

After that intro and safety discussion – they were super hot on the safety, just to put you in the picture – we received our jade pieces, or ‘blanks’ as they’re called in the trade. Next up, we got moving with carving and cutting, using specialist tools – honestly, that felt amazing! All were high grade tools for the work. Getting the feel for the tools and understanding exactly how much power to apply definitely took a little bit of practice, I suppose. However, the instructors just gently watched everyone. So, they offered helpful advice at times when needed. They showed real patience. That was reassuring. People could really create whatever designs they were dreaming of, or you can just take advantage of the pre-set designs and tutorials that these instructors can give. I suppose that you have to consider the jade itself. That definitely felt pretty good quality. So, it had a beautiful smoothness to it. And actually, the variety in color just made each stone seem unique. The equipment? Very professional, definitely jewelry grade. I believe this ensured precision, so you would easily be able to achieve intricate designs without problems. Everything in the studio was obviously high grade, like the polishing cloths and other supplies. That quality can sometimes really lift the level of any learning class – which I was very glad to witness.
